So you finally figured out how to make a website and learned what ftp stands for. Good for you. If you plan on making a website that is for you and your own vanity or to put photos or something up that doesn't need to get good rankings in the search engines then a static site is fine. Have fun in the sandbox. Now don't get me wrong we have plenty of static sites, so does this site it has a blog as well.

The way it works is a bot will crawl your site and see that you have new content and make note of it and that counts for something, because I heard someone say that google likes "new content" or something like that. I don't know I wasn't listening.

But the advantage of having a blog is that when your content is updated you can let the search engines know that it is updated RIGHT THEN. By Pinging them. Pinging is not only good for getting a bot to come crawl your site but it also gives information to all the blog aggregators. These sites are always getting crawled they are SO busy. Not only that but if someone is using RSS to follow your posts and or website they will be able to get an update to their reader IF you have a blog formatted site.

Nowadays there are blogs that look like websites. Which is neat and I think a little sneaky but I like the way they work. These are basically websites built from a wordpress base. Still give you the look and the functionality of a blog.

So to answer the question is a Blog better than a static website, the answer is yes. Usability, SE Friendlier, Readability is better.

Drop me a line, say something even if it is to say hello

Yes, end of post.

Just kidding. Well you have to look at what a directory is, it is basically a place where you can put a lot of links in hope of getting a nice page ranked site linking back to you. Well a lot of directories don't except affiliate sites, so if you are submitting an affiliate site for your best "mystery shopper review" good luck.

Just this last year Google pretty much denounced directories of having any relevancy at all. They didn't say it in those exact words, but if you can think for yourself then that is what they were getting at. This doesn't bother me a bit. A lot of directories are ugly, old and not fun to deal with. Especially DMOZ, the Godfather of Directories. Their process of choosing who to put in their directory is as difficult to figure out as the process as deciphering an ancient dead language.

So if directories are dead, I don't think I will cry tonight. I actually hope that DMOZ will start asking me to give them sites to include in their directory because nobody pays attention to them anymore. I will do what they have done to me for the last 5 years. Ignore them and tell them to try again.

Let me know what you think, do you agree or not agree.

So as the world economy goes into a doom and gloom a lot of companies are thinking about not doing anythign in terms of advertising and promotion. This is a smart decision for certain mediums. I mean I don't really blame them. For one thing, why would you still want to advertise in a medium that has no customers, (e hem... Yellow Pages). This is a smart decision on any businesses agenda. That is a very short meeting. "Should we waste more money this year in the Yellow Pages or should we take that money and do something that will last for a longer term"?

Longer term being investing in your website. Making more than an online business card and instead investing the money in an online money making machine. Regardless of wheather we are in a recession or not you can't forget to invest in your business if you want to grow or in these times stay afloat.

Now is the time as well to be online advertising and getting better rankings. Reason being, your competition is doing everything they can to save money and not investing in their business. Right now is a great chance to get your rankings better, get the clicks through Pay Per Click and get those clients converting.

Once your competition comes around to figuring out this internet thingy you will be light years ahead of them with all of their would be clients boasting about how much they love your service or product.

So to answer the question is SEO important in this economy, yes more than ever. We are in a changing time and starting to realize that the web is more than myspace and amazon. At least some have realized this, I did about a week ago. Just kidding it's been a month at least. Till next time, drop me a line I love conversation. I am tired of talking to the dog.

Maybe I seem to run into more people because I am in the business of doing seo and local seo but I seem to run into a new person that claims they are an expert in the field on a daily basis. I feel like it is 2004 and everyone is a mortgage broker. I received a card just recently from a person that was claiming the title of SEO Expert. So being the detective I am I decided to take a looksy at their site. To my surprise and dismay their site was not in one bit optimized and they were what I am calling an SES Expert ( Snake Elixir Salesman).

Now should a person in my shoes that knows a little bit about SEO be happy because my competition doesn't know a title tag from a name tag? In one sense I am relieved because this will probably not let me have to worry about them ever catching up to my efforts or abilities.

Now that is a small part of me that feels this. The other bigger part on how I feel is disgust. Here we have a slimmy Sam going around claiming he can optimize and rank but doesn't have a clue on how to do it himself. This will give the whole industry a bad name. People that use this company will come to realize that they should have spent their money on lottery tickets and at the dog track, because the odds of success are similar.

If you are an SEO professional please drop me a comment, I want to hear your opinion. Let me know if you feel the same or different or if I am a bitter sour puss.
